LESLIE MEDICAL PRACTICE - Update

Clinical Staff Shortages

From the 27th May 2022 the Practice will have reduced GP cover due to the retirement of one of our GP’s. We have been and are continuing to actively recruit but unfortunately there is a national shortage of GP’s and a replacement is proving difficult to find. This reduction will result in the loss of around 60 patient appointments each week.

The workload regarding clinic letters, results and prescription demand will remain unchanged and therefore each GP will be taking on a greater share of this also. Please bear this in mind with regards to turnaround time for prescriptions, referrals and blood test results.

We are also currently recruiting for a Practice Nurse and therefore have some reduced capacity with the Nurses until this post is fulfilled, please can we ask you to bear this in mind when calling for an appointment and we thank you for your patience.

Practice Procedures - Update 18/04/2022

During the continuing Coronavirus period, we regularly review Practice procedures in conjunction with NHS Fife Directives and Scottish Government Guidelines.

We would like to reassure our patients that even though we continue to work through challenging times and ever changing period and things are very different, we are still here to provide help and support with non-Covid related symptoms. This will be done in the first instance via a GP telephone consultation.  Please do not ignore any warning signs of serious conditions.

Appointments - When calling the Practice, please listen carefully to the recorded information and if you require a same day appointment, please select option 1 to speak with our Triage Nurse.

Social distancing -  measures remain in place in our waiting area for everyone's protection.  When attending, please try to attend alone to keep numbers to a minimum.  When entering the Practice, please wait behind the  signage post until called forward.

Face coverings – whilst the guidance on face coverings changed as from Monday 18th April to no longer being a legal requirement, we are urging all patients visiting the practice to continue to wear a face covering.  This will reduce the risk to our most vulnerable patients who regularly attend, whilst also reducing the risk to staff.      Staff providing direct care will continue to wear a face covering.

Repeat Prescription Requests - we have moved the box into the foyer inside the main doors. We will continue to send all prescriptions to your chosen local pharmacy. If you would normally collect your prescription, please can you advise Reception staff on your next visit which Pharmacy we can send your prescriptions to.   Thanks.

New Patient Registration Forms and other administrative forms can be found in the holders on the wall above the prescription request desk inside the foyer. .

For further guidance regarding any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and the relevant course of action to take, please refer to  https://www.nhsinform.scot/coronavirus or call the helpline on 0800 028 2816.

NHS Fife Take Stock Campaign

Take stock

Last year 28 tonnes of unused medicines were returned in Fife at a cost of £2.1 million.

There are simple things that we all can do to reduce medicines waste:

  • When you are ordering your medicines - Check Before You Order then Only Order What You Need  If you no longer take your medicine or have a question about it talk to the pharmacy team in your local pharmacy or GP practice.
  • If you are coming into hospital bring all of your medicines with you - staff will have a complete record of all you are taking and the hospital pharmacy wont need to dispense more of the same medicines if they are not needed.
