Visiting the Practice - Appointments and Prescription Information - 17/03/2020

Due to the current Coronavirus status we are taking the following measures to minimise the exposure risks to both our patients and staff:

We will be utilising telephone consultations where possible to assess and advise patients as appropriate. Please DO NOT enter the Practice unless you have a pre-booked appointment.

Repeat Prescription Requests - we have moved the box into the foyer inside the main doors. We will continue to send all prescriptions to your chosen local pharmacy. If you normally collect your prescription these will all be sent to Lloyds Leslie until further advised.

New Patient Registration Forms and Podiatry Referral Forms are available in the foyer inside the main doors.

For further guidance regarding any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and the relevant course of action to take, please refer to  https://www.nhsinform.scot/coronavirus or call the helpline on 0800 028 2816.

Changes to Gabapentin and Pregabalin Prescriptions

Changes to the law surrounding the supply of medicines coming into force from 1st April 2019 mean that prescriptions for Gabapentin and Pregabalin will be more tightly controlled.

Gabapentin and Pregabalin are safe and effective for conditions such as neuropathic pain relief, anxiety or epilepsy when taken as prescribed by your GP or specialist. However, there are increasing reports of patients coming to harm when it is misused and this is the reason for the additional controls. You may be asked to attend the practice for review of your medicine.

A prescription for Gabapentin or Pregabalin now requires the following before it can be supplied by the pharmacy;

  • The prescription is only valid for 28 days from the date printed on it and must be dispensed by a pharmacy within that time.
  • The practice has to issue a maximum of 30 days’ supply on prescription—quantities may be reduced to 28 days supply to comply with this.

These changes will take time to put in place, so please be patient whilst we try to ensure the prescriptions we issue are legally correct. If they are not correct, the pharmacy cannot dispense them.

Please note - Prescriptions for these medicines will not be replaced if lost and may not be issued early.

If you would like any further information or would like to discuss your these changes then please contact us and we will arrange for our Practice pharmacist to contact you.

NHS Fife Take Stock Campaign

Take stock

Last year 28 tonnes of unused medicines were returned in Fife at a cost of £2.1 million.

There are simple things that we all can do to reduce medicines waste:

  • When you are ordering your medicines - Check Before You Order then Only Order What You Need  If you no longer take your medicine or have a question about it talk to the pharmacy team in your local pharmacy or GP practice.
  • If you are coming into hospital bring all of your medicines with you - staff will have a complete record of all you are taking and the hospital pharmacy wont need to dispense more of the same medicines if they are not needed.
